How to Mount Your High-Power LED

  1. Ensure your work area is clean and you have all necessary tools: soldering iron, solder, thermal compound, and the LED chip.
  2. Apply a small, thin layer of thermal paste or thermal adhesive to the center pad of the aluminum substrate.
  3. Carefully place your high-power LED chip onto the thermal compound, ensuring its base is flat against the PCB.
  4. Solder the LED's positive and negative contacts to the corresponding anode (+) and cathode (-) pads on the star PCB.
  5. Connect the PCB's main input pads to a suitable constant current LED driver. Do not connect directly to a voltage source.
  6. For sustained operation, especially with 3W and 5W LEDs, mount the entire PCB assembly onto a larger, secondary heat sink for maximum heat dissipation.
