CFL LED Lamps
13 productsCFL LED lamps are direct, energy-efficient replacements for the pin-base plug-in and screw-in compact fluorescent bulbs found in recessed cans, sconces, and commercial fixtures. Unlike the old CFLs they replace, these LED bulbs provide instant-on light with no warm-up time, use a fraction of the power, and have a much longer service life, typically around 40,000 hours. SuperLightingLED CFL LED bulbs are designed for straightforward retrofitting, offering a complete selection of base types and wattages from 10W to a powerful 115W HID replacement.
Our collection covers the most common CFL sockets, including 2-pin and 4-pin PLC bases as well as standard E26/E27 screw-in types for corn-style bulbs. Most of our models operate on a wide input voltage of AC 85-265V, making them suitable for installations worldwide. Whether you're replacing a PLC downlight or a screw-in bulb, you get significant energy savings without sacrificing brightness.
What is a PLC LED bulb?
A PLC LED bulb is a modern replacement for a plug-in compact fluorescent lamp, designed to fit the same 2-pin or 4-pin sockets. The key difference is that most LED versions require you to bypass or remove the original fluorescent ballast and wire the socket directly to mains voltage. This is a common pain point with retrofits, but it eliminates the ballast as a future point of failure and improves the fixture's overall efficiency. Our PLC lamps come in common base types like G23D, GX24D, G24Q, and GX23D to match your existing fixtures.

CFL LED Lamps: Base Types, Dimming, and Installation
Once you've confirmed the shape and wattage you need, the main technical choices involve the base type and whether you need dimming. Our CFL LED bulb light models includes options for nearly every type of compact fluorescent fixture, from small residential downlights to large commercial high bays.
Replacing fluorescent bulbs with LED: The Ballast Bypass
The most critical step when installing a PLC-style LED lamp is bypassing the existing fluorescent ballast. Old CFL fixtures use a ballast to regulate current, but our LED replacements are designed to run directly on mains voltage (e.g., AC 85-265V). Connecting them without removing the ballast will damage the bulb. While this requires a simple rewiring of the fixture, it provides two major benefits: it removes a component that will eventually fail and consumes power, making your retrofitted fixture more reliable and even more energy-efficient.
Matching the Base: PLC vs. E26/E27 Corn Lights
Choosing the right compact fluorescent LED replacement starts with the base. An incorrect base simply won't fit.
- 2-Pin PLC Bases (G23D, GX23D): These are common in older, smaller recessed can lights and wall sconces. Our 8W models are a direct physical replacement for 18W fluorescent tubes.
- 4-Pin PLC Bases (G24Q, GX24Q, G24D): Often found in commercial downlights. The four pins are for connection to an electronic ballast, which must be bypassed for our LED bulbs.
- E26/E27 Screw-in Bases: These are standard sockets. Our T10 corn-style LED bulbs replace the spiral CFLs used in lamps, enclosed fixtures, and some outdoor lamps led applications.
- E39 Mogul Base: This larger screw-in base is for high-power applications. Specifically designed as a led fluorescent light replacement for HID lamps in warehouses, parking lots, and street lights.
Frequently Asked Questions About CFL LED Lamps
Got questions about replacing your old CFL or HID bulbs? I've answered thousands of them over the years. Here are the most common ones that come up right before an order.
The best way is to look at the lumen (lm) output, not the 'watt equivalent'. Lumens measure actual brightness. A typical 10 watt LED light equivalent to a 60W incandescent bulb produces about 800 lumens. A 5 watt LED light equivalent might replace a 40W bulb with around 450 lumens. Always check the lumen spec on the product page to be sure you're getting the brightness you need.
It all comes down to the pins and plastic keys on the base, which have to match the socket perfectly. G23 and G24d are 2-pin bases; the ballast is in the fixture. G24q and GX24q are 4-pin bases; the starter is separate and the ballast is too. The 'X' in GX24 indicates a different plastic keying notch on the base than a G24. You must order the exact same base code that you're replacing.
LED corn bulbs are all about 360-degree light output. They're covered in LEDs on all sides to mimic the way old HID and incandescent bulbs threw light in every direction. This makes them ideal for post-top lamps, high-bay fixtures, and anything where you need a wide, even spread of light rather than a directional beam. Other bulbs, like our LED pin lights, are designed to direct light forward.
They run much cooler than the HID or halogen bulbs they replace, but yes, they still produce heat that needs to go somewhere. The aluminum structure of the bulb is a heat sink. In a fully enclosed, unventilated fixture, especially with a high-wattage bulb, heat can build up and shorten the bulb's lifespan. It's always best to have some airflow if possible.
