The big difference between line vs low voltage landscape lighting is the transformer. Line voltage (120V/230V) fixtures connect directly to your home's main power, no transformer needed. This simplifies the wiring, especially for shorter runs or spots near an existing outdoor outlet. Our low voltage systems require a transformer to step the power down to 12V or 24V, which is often better for long, complex runs with many lights.
The best led color changing landscape lights for smart homes use a standard protocol like Zigbee 3.0. This lets them talk to hubs like Philips Hue, Tuya, SmartThings, and Amazon Echo. We list 10 models with Zigbee built-in. Look for RGB+CCT fixtures specifically. They give you 16 million colors for parties and holidays, but also a dedicated white LED (from 2700K to 6500K) for high-quality, everyday architectural lighting.
It depends on the model. For any hardwired 120V or 230V landscape lights, we strongly recommend you use a licensed electrician. Mains voltage isn't forgiving. For our plug-in models, you don't need an electrician, but you absolutely must plug them into a GFCI-protected (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outdoor receptacle for safety.

However, sometimes a hub manufacturer can limit third-party device functionality within their app. For 100% access to every feature like dynamic modes, we recommend using the corresponding Tuya or MiBoxer gateway.
