COB gives you a completely seamless line of light with zero visible dots, which is perfect for lighting reflective surfaces. SMD strips have tiny visible LED chips. For most ultra-narrow applications where the strip itself might be visible, COB is the way to go for a professional, clean look. You can find out more in our guide to COB strips.

Yes, they're perfect for high-detail accent and task lighting, but not for lighting a whole room. Think model making, jewelry display cases, accenting dashboard trim in a car, or edge-lighting a custom PC build. Our high-density versions pack up to 480 LEDs per meter, so they provide a very bright, clear line of light for their tiny size.

It's tricky, no doubt about it. If you're not confident, a better option is to tell us the exact lengths you need, and we can pre-solder the lead wires for you.

It's all about matching the strip to your power source and project goals. Low voltages like 3V and 5V are ideal for battery-powered devices and electronics projects that use USB or microcontroller power. Higher voltages like 12V and 24V are better for longer runs in architectural or automotive installs because they suffer less from voltage drop, meaning the strip stays brighter over its length.

Our 2.7mm wide LED strips will fit into our slimmest, micro-sized aluminum channels. You'll want to look for profiles with an internal width of at least 3mm. These are often designed for embedding into furniture grooves or display cases and provide both a clean look and a bit of extra heat dissipation, which is always good for the lifespan of the LEDs.

For most accent uses, you don't. The power draw is low enough that they don't produce a lot of heat. The exception is if you're running a high-density version at full power inside a very small, completely sealed enclosure with no airflow. In that specific case, mounting the 2mm wide led strip on a thin aluminum flat bar or channel is a good idea for longevity.

With a 5V strip this narrow, you'll start to see visible dimming from voltage drop after about 2 to 3 meters (6-10 ft). For runs longer than that, you need to inject power at both ends of the strip or run parallel power wires to feed it in the middle. If you're planning a longer run from the start, choosing a 12V or 24V version is a much easier solution. There's more on this in our guide on voltage drop.

It depends on how you want the light to be seen. A tiny COB strip is flat and has a 180-degree beam, designed to be mounted to a surface to wash it with light. A flexible LED filament is round and shines in 360 degrees, like a miniature neon tube. You'd use the filament to create light-up shapes that are visible from all sides, and the COB strip for hidden, directional lighting.

Yes, we do this all the time. We can fully encase it in a slim silicone tube for a outdoor IP67 rating. We can also pre-solder custom-length waterproof lead wires. Just send us a drawing or even a simple description of what you need—length, wire type, connectors—and an engineer will send back a full spec and quote, usually within 12 hours. There's no fee or obligation.

You can cut them at the designated cut points, which are usually marked with a small scissor icon or a copper line across the strip. For these ultra-narrow strips, the cut points can be very close together, sometimes as close as every 10mm or so, which gives you a lot of precision. Just make sure you only cut on that line, otherwise the next section of LEDs won't light up.
