It automatically detects the control signal you've connected. If you wire a compatible AC phase-cut dimmer to the driver's input, it will use TRIAC dimming. If you connect a low-voltage controller to the dedicated purple and gray 0-10V wires, it will follow that signal instead. You just wire it for the system you have, and the driver figures it out on its own.
No, and this is a critical point. This driver makes the *power supply* dimmable, but the LED light source itself must be designed for dimming. These drivers output constant voltage (CV), so they're perfect for products like our dimmable LED strip lights. They won't work for most integrated fixtures or bulbs that require a constant current (CC) driver or have their own internal dimming circuitry.
That's a common mistake that shortens the driver's life. For best performance and longevity, you should only load a power supply to 80% of its rated capacity. So, if you have a 100W driver, don't connect more than 80W of lights to it. This headroom prevents overheating and ensures the driver has enough power to operate cleanly without stress, which is especially important for smooth dimming.
This 'startup flash' is almost always caused by the TRIAC wall dimmer, not the driver or the LEDs. When you first flip the switch, some older or lower-quality dimmers send an unstable power surge before settling down, causing the driver to briefly output full power.
