A high voltage RGB controller is designed to work directly with your 110V or 220V AC mains power. It takes line voltage in and outputs a controlled high voltage signal for the strip, so you don't need a separate, bulky power supply. A 12V or 24V controller requires a power supply to step the AC voltage down before it gets to the controller and the strip.
This depends entirely on the controller's wattage rating and the watts-per-foot of your LED strip. For example, our 2500W high-power controller can run up to 328 feet (100m) of a typical 5050 RGB strip. Always do the math: (Total Feet of Strip) x (Watts per Foot) must be less than the controller's max wattage rating for your specific led light voltage.
Yes, but you have to choose the right model. Look for controllers with an IP67 or IP68 rating, like our WP-803H DMX decoder. These are fully sealed against rain and dust. A standard indoor controller, even if used with waterproof strips, will fail quickly if exposed to moisture. Make sure your wiring connections using high voltage connectors are also fully waterproofed.
This usually points to a wiring issue at the controller's output. High voltage RGB strips have four or five pins: a common/anode and one for each color (R, G, B). If you've accidentally swapped the green and blue wires, for example, the strip will light up but all your color commands will be mixed up. Double-check that the R, G, and B outputs on the controller are wired to the corresponding inputs on the strip.
These are line voltage controllers, so they are designed for an input of 100-240V AC, covering both the 110-120V standard in North America and the 220-240V standard used elsewhere. The output led voltage will match the input and is designed specifically for high voltage AC LED strips. Never try to connect a low voltage DC strip to one of these.
