A PIR (Passive Infrared) sensor detects body heat in a wide cone shape, which is great for most stairways. A laser sensor is a straight line — it only triggers when something breaks the beam. Use a laser when you have a long, straight approach and want to avoid pets on the floor or movement in an adjacent room from triggering the lights.

Yes, as long as the voltage and type match. A controller designed for single-color 24V strips will run any single-color 24V strip. The key is matching the specs: voltage (12V/24V) and type. The actual wiring for LED strip lights is standard, but the controller needs the right output channels.

A daylight sensor prevents the stair lights from turning on when there's already enough ambient light in the room. It's absolutely worth it. It saves a surprising amount of energy and, more importantly, it dramatically extends the lifespan of your LEDs by not running them unnecessarily. Most of our controllers have one built-in or as an add-on.

Some of our advanced models, like the ES24, are designed for exactly this. They have separate outputs for SPI/digital strips (for the colorful cascading effect on the treads) and standard PWM outputs for simpler, single-color strips you might use for the handrail or side wall.
