The dimmer switch wiring is critical, and it's a common place to make a mistake. The line voltage dimmer goes *between* your 110V/220V mains power and the high voltage LED strip. It's an in-line device. Live wire from the wall goes to the dimmer's AC input, and the dimmer's AC output goes to the strip. Never connect a low-voltage (12V/24V) dimmer to a high-voltage strip, or vice versa. Make sure all connections are secure and properly insulated, using the right high voltage connectors.
You always wire high voltage lights in parallel to the dimmer. Each light or strip section gets the full 110V/220V line voltage from the dimmer's output. The concept of voltage in a series parallel circuit doesn't really apply here because you should never wire line voltage products in series. Wiring them in series would divide the voltage between them, causing them to be very dim or not turn on at all.
No, and this is a crucial safety point. These are line voltage dimmers that take a 100-240V AC input and output a dimmed 100-240V AC signal. They are for high-voltage LED strips or mains-powered fixtures. A low-voltage dimmer works on the DC side of a power supply, after the voltage has been converted. Using the wrong type will destroy the lights and the dimmer. For 12V or 24V systems, you need a low-voltage PWM dimmer.
This depends entirely on the wattage per foot of your strip and the maximum wattage rating of the dimmer. For example, our 1500W controller can handle about 150 feet of a typical 10W/ft strip. Always calculate the total wattage of your planned run (length in feet x watts per foot) and make sure it's under 80% of the dimmer's maximum rating to be safe.
Yes, absolutely. Most of our TRIAC-based line voltage dimmers are also compatible with traditional incandescent bulbs and halogen lamps. They are a great modern replacement for older dimmer switches. Just be sure to check the product specs and respect the maximum load rating, as incandescent bulbs draw significantly more power than LEDs.
