The main advantages of high-voltage LED strips are simplicity and length. You plug them straight into your AC wall power without a bulky transformer, and you can get a single, continuous run up to 50 meters (164ft) ~ 100 meters (328ft). For long architectural outlines, landscape lighting, or large coves, that's a huge time and cost saver compared to dealing with voltage drop on low-voltage strips.
You can only cut a 120V LED tape light at the specific cut marks, which are usually indicated by a small scissor icon printed on the strip's jacket. Be aware that these cut points are much farther apart than on low-voltage strips – typically every 50cm or 1 meter. Cutting anywhere else will damage the circuit for that entire section, and it won't light up.
To connect high-voltage LED strips, you'll use a specific power cord with a pin connector. You line up the sharp pins with the copper conductors inside the strip and push firmly to make a connection. For joining two cut sections, you use a similar pin-to-pin splice connector. Always, always seal the connection and the end cap with silicone glue to maintain the waterproof rating. To be blunt, the most likely cause is a short circuit or reversed polarity. Unlike low-voltage DC strips which are more forgiving, connecting AC power incorrectly, even for a second, can permanently destroy a section of the strip or the entire reel. Double-check that your power pin is aligned correctly with the conductors and that the connection is fully insulated before you ever plug it in.
An IP67 rated driverless led strip is highly water-resistant, not fully waterproof for submersion. It means the strip is protected against dust and can withstand being temporarily submerged in water up to 1 meter deep.
