Its main job is to take the harsh, distinct dots of light from individual LEDs and scatter them, blending them into a single, smooth, continuous line of light. A silicone sealant is a waterproof adhesive, and yes, you absolutely need it if your light will be used outdoors or in a damp location like a bathroom. The end caps create a physical barrier, but the sealant creates the actual waterproof seal. You inject a small amount into the end cap before pushing it onto the diffuser to fully pot the connection and protect the LED strip's electronics from moisture and corrosion. Standard construction-grade, neutral-cure silicone works fine.

Yes, absolutely. Many of our profiles for 12mm strips have flanges or wings specifically for this. You cut a groove in the drywall or millwork, and the flange on the diffuser covers the edge of the cut for a clean, trimless finish. We even have a range of silicone diffusers for aluminum channels that are designed to be pressed into a recessed aluminum profile first, which can make for an even cleaner installation.

You will see a significant drop in brightness with our black neon diffusers compared to the standard milky white ones. This is by design. The goal of a black diffuser isn't maximum light output; it's to create a sleek, 'disappearing' fixture that blends into dark surfaces when off, and provides a deeply saturated, glare-free line of color when on. Expect a light loss of 60-75% or more. Always use a very bright, high-density 12mm LED strip inside them to compensate.

This usually happens for one of two reasons. First, the strip itself may not be perfectly straight if it's a very thin or flexible PCB. The more common cause, though, is that the strip got twisted during the pulling process. The best way to fix it is to secure one end and then, from the other end, use needle-nose pliers to gently grab the very end of the strip and straighten it out, working your way down the tube by smoothing it with your hands.
