Types of RGBW LED Strip Lights

• RGBW 4-in-1 LED: RGBW four color LED chips are in the same SMD 5050 LED, which is further improved in color and visual range than the RGB led strip.
• R+G+B+W LED: Four individual single color LEDs, you can independently control the four single colors.
• RGB+W LED: RGB 3-in-1 LED plus white LED, can separately control RGB color and white color separately.
• RGBW COB LED: Linear lighting without light spot, no dark areas.
RGBW led tape light color changing effects are controlled by RGBW Controller. By mounting some ICs on the RGBW light strip can make the effect more dynamic and customized (and this is the difference between PWM RGBW led strip and digital RGBW led strip).

Here are the questions we get asked most often before a customer places an order. I've answered them the same way I would on a call — directly and with the details that matter on the jobsite.
It's all about the white light. Standard RGB strips mix red, green, and blue to make a sloppy, bluish-white. An RGBW LED strip light adds a fourth, dedicated white LED for a clean, pure white light. This is what you want for task lighting. RGB+CCT goes a step further, giving you a dedicated white chip that's also tunable from warm to cool, which is what our RGB+CCT strips do.
This is simply the color temperature of the dedicated white chip, and it makes a huge difference. A 3000K LED strip light gives you a warm, yellowish-white like a classic incandescent bulb—great for living rooms or bedrooms. A 4000K LED strip is a neutral, clean white, very popular for kitchens and offices. 6000K is a cool, bluish-white, like daylight, which works well for garages, display cases, or very modern spaces.
The 4-in-1 RGBW LED strip integrates all four colors into a single 5050 LED chip. This gives you better color mixing and eliminates the 'shadowing' you can sometimes get from separate LEDs. The light looks more uniform, especially on reflective surfaces. Strips with separate RGB and white chips (often called RGB+W) are usually a bit brighter on the white channel, but the color and white light sources are slightly offset.
We stock way more 24V RGBW LED strip lights because they handle longer runs with less voltage drop. On a 12V strip, you'll see the brightness and color start to fade after about 5 meters (16.4 ft). A 24V strip can typically go 10 meters before you need to inject power again. For really long runs, we even carry 48V strips that can go up to 30 or 40 meters on a single power feed.
That's classic voltage drop. It happens when you run the LED tape light too far from its power source. The voltage literally drops as it travels down the copper traces on the strip, so the LEDs at the far end don't get the full power they need. The fix is to power the strip from both ends or run a new power line to the middle of the run. Check out our guide to long runs for wiring diagrams.
Yes, you absolutely need an RGBW controller. These strips have five wires: one for red, green, blue, white, and a common positive (+). You can't just wire it to a power supply. The controller gets wired between the power supply and the strip, and it's what lets you choose colors and brightness. We have a detailed RGBW wiring guide that walks you through it step-by-step.
They can, but not directly. The strip itself doesn't have any 'smart' tech built in. The compatibility comes from the controller you pair it with. You'd need to connect our RGBW LED strip to a Zigbee or WiFi-based controller that's compatible with your system. We stock hundreds of controllers, so just tell us you're using Hue or Tuya and we'll point you to the right one.
If you have a true RGBW strip and the dedicated white channel looks good, but the 'white' you make by mixing RGB looks off, that's normal. Mixing R, G, and B never makes a perfect white. If your dedicated white channel itself looks tinted, it usually means there's a problem with the controller settings or a poor connection on one of the color channels, causing it to bleed into the white.
We do. We have several 8mm wide RGBW LED tape options, including both standard SMD and dotless COB versions. Our {P5974|narrow 8mm RGBW strip} is a common choice for tight spaces like that. Just be sure to check the specs on the product page, because LED density and brightness can vary on the narrower PCBs.
For outdoor projects, you need a strip with an IP67 or IP68 rating. An IP67 strip is protected by a silicone tube, making it weatherproof against rain and splashing. IP68 is fully submersible. The key is to make sure all your connections are also waterproof. We recommend using sealant-filled, heat-shrink tubing and proper IP68 waterproof connectors on any cuts you make.
Yes, all our RGBW strips have clearly marked cut points, usually every 3 or 6 LEDs. You can cut them with a pair of sharp scissors and then use 5-pin solderless connectors or solder wires to bridge the gap. For very sharp turns without cutting, you could also look at our S-shape bendable strips, which are designed to curve and bend without needing to be cut.
Absolutely. A huge amount of what we ship is built to a customer's drawing. Just send us your required lengths, the lead wire lengths you need on each end, and the type of connector you want. You can send a CAD file or even just a photo of a sketch on a napkin. An engineer will send back a full parts list, wiring diagram, and a price, usually within 12 hours. There's no fee for this and no obligation to order.
