LED Panel Lights — More Than Standard Ceiling Lighting

When people think of LED panel lights, the first image that often comes to mind is a conventional flat white panel installed in an office or suspended ceiling. At SuperLightingLED, our panel lighting range takes a different approach.

Our flat LED panel lights are designed primarily for custom lighting, DIY projects, backlighting, pixel effects, machine vision, UV, infrared, and other specialized applications. Instead of offering only standard ceiling fixtures, we provide different panel light sources that allow designers, makers, engineers, and installers to choose the size, light output, wavelength, color, and control method required for their project.

Cuttable Flexible LED Light Sheets

For projects that require a panel light to fit a specific size or shape, flexible LED light sheets provide the greatest freedom.

Unlike conventional rigid LED panels, these ultra-thin flexible PCB sheets can be bent and cut at designated cutting points to create customized illuminated surfaces. Multiple sheets can also be connected together to cover larger areas.

They are especially useful for backlighting stone, countertops, translucent materials, signs, displays, light boxes, furniture, feature walls, and other applications where a traditional fixed-size panel cannot easily fit.

SuperLightingLED offers flexible LED sheets in multiple white color temperatures as well as tunable white, RGB, RGBW, RGBCCT, and programmable color options depending on the series.

Pixel & Programmable LED Panels

For dynamic lighting rather than simple illumination, SuperLightingLED also offers pixel LED panels and programmable LED matrices.

These panels arrange individually controlled LEDs across a flat surface, allowing compatible controllers to create animations, chasing effects, changing colors, patterns, and other digital lighting effects.

Unlike our cuttable backlighting sheets, many pixel LED panels have a fixed PCB layout and size and are intended to be used as modular building blocks rather than trimmed to shape. Multiple pixel LED light panels can be combined for decorative displays, interactive lighting, stage projects, creative installations, and custom pixel lighting systems.

High-Power & Specialized LED Panels

Some applications require much more than visible white light. SuperLightingLED also provides high-power and specialized LED panels for professional and technical projects.

These include UV-A panels, near-infrared panels, IR + visible-light combinations, and other high-output panel light sources. Depending on the model, they can be used for applications such as fluorescence excitation, machine vision, inspection, imaging, testing, research, and specialized industrial lighting.

These products focus on wavelength, optical output, power, and application requirements rather than simply providing general room illumination.

How Are SuperLightingLED Panel Lights Different?

The key difference is customization and application.

A conventional ceiling LED panel light is generally a finished fixture designed to provide broad white illumination for a room. Many SuperLightingLED panel products instead function as customizable or specialized light sources that become part of a larger lighting project.

  • Choose a cuttable flexible LED sheet when size, shape, and uniform backlighting matter.
  • Choose a pixel LED panel when programmable effects and individual LED control are the priority.
  • Choose a high-power or wavelength-specific LED panel when your project requires UV, infrared, machine vision, or another specialized light source.

From creative DIY lighting to professional technical applications, SuperLightingLED provides panel lighting solutions that go beyond the traditional ceiling lights panel.

Frequently Asked Questions About LED Panel Lights

Got a question about our flexible LED sheets? I've been answering them for 12 years. Here are the most common ones I hear.

That’s a common point of confusion. The rigid LED ceiling panel lights you see in offices are designed to drop into a grid ceiling. Our LED panel lights are different: they're thin, flexible sheets of LEDs designed for custom jobs. Think backlighting for translucent stone, creating animated signs, or building large, seamless glowing surfaces where a standard fixture just won't fit.

Yes, some of them are designed to be cut. You'll see designated cut lines on the panel, usually between groups of LEDs or individual pixels. Just make sure you choose the cuttable model and cut on the line.

It's all about project size and power management. 5V LED panels are great for smaller, dense pixel light displays. For larger architectural projects, 12V and 24V are the standard. It lets you run longer sections or connect more panels before you have to worry about voltage drop making the far end look dim.

Addressable means you can control every single LED (or small group of LEDs) on the panel independently. This is how you create effects like flowing colors, animations, or even video displays. Instead of the whole panel being one color, you can have a rainbow chase across it. They're some of the best bedroom LED lights for creating custom ambient effects behind a headboard or screen.

Most of our LED panel lights come with a 3M adhesive backing, so for clean, flat surfaces, you can just peel and stick. For ceiling applications, or when you need to bridge gaps, mounting the sheet to a thin, rigid substrate like polycarbonate or aluminum first is a good practice.

The key is diffusion distance. You need enough space between the LEDs on the panel and the translucent material (like onyx, quartzite, or acrylic) you're lighting up. If the panel is too close, you'll see the individual LED hot spots. The ideal distance depends on the LED density and the material's translucency, but a good starting point is 1-2 inches (25-50mm). Using a panel with a higher density of LEDs also helps smooth out the light.
