Long COB LED Light Strip

The biggest advantage of a long COB LED light strip is eliminating voltage drop. On a standard 5-meter cob strip, you'll see the light get noticeably dimmer towards the end. You can run our long cob lights up to 30 meters from a single power connection with perfectly even brightness from start to finish. It saves a ton of wiring headaches.

Go with 48V if you can. A 48V long COB LED strip carries the same power with half the current of a 24V strip. Less current means less power loss as heat and even better performance over very long distances, like 20 or 30 meters. While our 24V strips are great up to 15 or 20 meters, the DC 48V LED strip lights are the absolute best choice for pushing the longest possible runs with zero issues.

That's classic voltage drop. It happens when you use a strip that isn't designed for long distances. The electrical resistance of the copper circuit board just eats up the voltage over the length of the strip. For long LED lights for ceiling coves, the key is a clean, dry surface. Most of our long run cob strips come with a strong adhesive backing. Just peel and stick it directly inside the cove or, even better, into an aluminum channel for better heat dissipation and a cleaner look. Since you only have to power one end, you can run the wire from your power supply up the wall and connect it at the start of the run. No need to run extra wires to the middle or the other end.

Yes, it is safe to leave our LED strip lights on overnight, or even 24/7. Unlike old incandescent bulbs, they produce very little heat and are designed for continuous operation. Just make sure they're installed correctly with the right power supply and have some airflow. Mounting them in an aluminum channel is always the best practice for longevity if you plan to run them hard for long hours.

For lighting a long driveway, you need something durable and weatherproof. The best COB LED strip light for that job would be one of our IP67 or IP68 rated long lights. These are sealed in a silicone tube or jacket, protecting them from rain, snow, and sprinklers. The long-run capability means you can create one continuous, dot-free line of light along a path or curb without worrying about multiple power points.

You can, but not directly. Your Lutron or Leviton wall dimmer needs to be connected to a compatible dimmable LED driver (look for TRIAC or ELV dimmable drivers). The driver then powers and dims the 24V or 48V strip. Never wire a 120V AC wall dimmer straight to a low-voltage DC LED strip light—you'll destroy the strip instantly.

A long COB LED strip gives you a completely seamless, dot-free line of light, which you can't get from a traditional SMD (Surface Mount Device) strip unless you use a heavy diffuser. Absolutely. For a pergola or any outdoor structure, you'll want one of our waterproof COB strips with an IP67 or IP68 rating. The IP67 is splash and rain-proof, while the IP68 can be fully submerged. They come in continuous long reels, so you can outline the entire structure with a single, unbroken line of light. Just make sure your connections are also sealed with waterproof connectors or heat shrink.

To size your power supply, you need the strip's wattage per meter. Check the product spec sheet for that number (e.g., 10W/meter). Multiply that by the total length: 10W/m x 30m = 300W. Then, add a 20% safety margin, so you'd need a power supply of at least 360W. Always oversize the power supply; running one at 100% capacity will shorten its life.

Even though they are designed as long lights, most of our COB LED strips still have designated cut marks, usually every 25mm to 50mm. You'll see a small copper pad or a line indicating where it's safe to cut with a sharp pair of scissors. Just be sure to cut straight across the line. Some specialty models, like our 'cut anywhere' strips, offer even more flexibility. Once cut, you can use our solderless connectors or solder wires on to power the new section.
