1. Match the Connector to Your Strip Type: COB vs. SMD

First, identify your LED strip technology. SMD (Surface Mounted Device) strips have visible, spaced-out LED chips. COB (Chip on Board) strips have a continuous, seamless line of light. Because their contact points are designed differently, you can't use an SMD connector on a COB strip or vice-versa. 

2. Check Your Strip's PCB Width and IP Rating

The width of the strip's printed circuit board (PCB) is critical. The most common widths for RGBW strips are 10mm and 12mm. A 10mm connector will not work on a 12mm strip. It's also vital to check the IP rating. Most of these connectors are for non-waterproof (IP20) strips. The standard 5 pin connector wiring is +V, R, G, B, W. The +V (usually 12V, 24V, or 48V) is your common positive, and the other four are the negative channels for Red, Green, Blue, and White.
