Color Chasing LED Strip Light Kits
51 productsUnlike a standard multi-color RGB strip light kit, which can only display one solid color at a time, a Color Chasing LED strip light kit lets you show dozens of colors simultaneously on the same strip. The secret is an integrated circuit (IC) chip, like WS2811 SK6812 or WS2815 WS2818 TM1934, that makes each LED or small segment of LEDs individually 'addressable'. This is what creates the flowing, rainbow, and 'chasing' effects that give these kits their name. If you want motion and dynamic patterns, not just static color, this is the technology you need.
An addressable LED strip kit is the fastest way to get a project running because we've already solved the compatibility issues. Each kit bundles the correct LED strip with a matched SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface) controller and a power supply rated for the strip's voltage and length.
We stock kits in DC5V, DC12V, and DC24V, with controllers ranging from simple RF remotes to Bluetooth APP control and WiFi-enabled units that work with Alexa and Google Home. You get everything you need in one box, guaranteed to work together.

What's the difference between standard RGB and Color Chasing (RGBIC)?
The main distinction is control. Standard RGB LED strips have three circuits for the entire reel (Red, Green, Blue), so every LED must be the same color. Color Chasing, or RGBIC (RGB + Independent Chip), light strips add a data line that sends unique commands to each chip on the strip. This allows for complex, multi-color effects.
| Feature | Color Chasing (RGBIC) | Standard RGB |
| Color Effect | Multiple colors simultaneously; flowing, chasing, rainbow patterns. | One solid color at a time across the entire strip. |
| LED Control | Individual LEDs or small segments can be controlled. | All LEDs are controlled as a single unit. |
| Wiring | 3 wires typically: Power (+), Data (DAT), Ground (-). | 4 wires typically: Power (+), Red (-), Green (-), Blue (-). |
| Controller | Requires a specific SPI / 'pixel' / 'dream color' controller. | Uses a standard analog RGB controller. |
| Best For | Dynamic ambient lighting, TV backlights, holiday displays, signage. | Cove lighting, under-cabinet lighting, uniform color washes. |
Frequently Asked Questions About Color Chasing LED Strip Light Kits
Got a question about setting up your color chasing lights? I've been answering these on the support desk for 12 years. Here are the common ones.
This is a classic data signal issue. On these strips, data hops from one chip to the next. First, check the 3-pin connector coming from your controller—a loose data wire is the most common cause. If the connection is solid and the problem starts in the middle of the strip, the IC on the *first* bad LED has likely failed. When it fails, it can't pass the signal along to all the LEDs after it.
You can, but not by simply plugging one into the end of the other. The data signal weakens over distance, and you'll get severe voltage drop, causing colors at the far end to be dim or wrong. For long runs, you must inject power from a separate power supply every 5 to 10 meters. For the data line, you may need an LED signal amplifier to boost the signal for the second strip. We have a detailed guide to wiring addressable strips that covers this exact scenario.
With a color chasing kit, you don't have to pick just one! The best party atmosphere comes from the dynamic, multi-color modes. Don't just set it to a static color. Use one of the built-in scenes like 'rainbow,' 'meteor shower,' or 'chase.' These flowing patterns create way more energy and visual interest. And of course, the music-reactive modes are perfect for turning any space into a dance floor.
It's about the data signal's reliability. The standard 3-wire setup is Power (V+), Data, and Ground (GND). A 4-wire addressable LED strip adds a backup data line (BI). With a standard strip, if one LED chip fails, everything downstream from it goes dark because the data signal stops. With a backup data line, the signal simply bypasses the dead chip and the rest of the strip keeps working. It's a key feature for permanent installs where you can't easily replace a strip. You can learn more in our complete guide to addressable LEDs.
Yes, absolutely. As long as the kits all use the same control ecosystem (like Tuya, Smart Life, or Magic Home), you can add multiple controllers to the app. You can name them 'Living Room,' 'Bedroom,' 'Patio,' etc. The app will let you control each one individually or group them together to sync their effects, all from one screen.
Yes, we build custom-length kits all the time; a large part of our business is building to a customer's drawing. Just tell us the exact length you need for your project. We'll cut the strip, solder on the required lead wires and connectors, and pair it with the correct power supply and controller. Send us a simple sketch or a description of what you're trying to do. An engineer will reply with a full parts list and quote, usually within 12 hours. There's no fee for the consultation and no obligation to buy.
Not at all. The vast majority of our color chasing LED strip light kits are fully plug-and-play. The kit includes the strip, the controller, and a power adapter that plugs into a regular wall outlet. You're just connecting a few pre-wired plugs together. The only time you'd need an electrician is if you're doing a large, custom installation and want to hardwire the main power supply directly into your home's AC wiring.
