Single Signal LED Strips
8 sub-categories

Single-signal addressable LED strips are the cornerstone of digital IC lighting, widely adopted across diverse residential, commercial, and architectural projects for their simplicity, versatility, and cost-effectiveness.
What do "Single Signal LED Strips" mean?
In addressable led strip lighting, "Single Signal" means that only has one wire to transmit data, which is convenient for wiring. It's also called 3 pin digital led strip (V+, GND, DAT). WS2812/WS2812B/WS2812C, SK6812, WS2811/SM16703 are the familiar 3 pin single signal digital led strip lights, which also include UCS1903/UCS2903/FW1903, UCS2904, TM1812, TM1814/TM1824 and so on.
"Single Signal" just specifies that the digital led light strip has only one data wire. It does not limit the color of the addressable LEDs, so you can still find white, WWA, or RGBW colors other than RGB here.

WS2812B IC Programmable LED Strips

When you need individual control over every single LED on a strip, the WS2812/WS2812B/WS2812C LED strip is the industry standard for a reason. Unlike other addressable LED strips like WS2811 that use an external driver IC to control groups of LEDs, the WS2812/WS2812B/WS2812C integrates the LED driver IC directly into the 5050/2020/1010/Cob LED package. WS2812B VS WS2811 Addressable LED Comparison And Commonality
It allows for simpler, often narrower PCB designs and means every single LED is its own pixel, all controlled by a single data wire. This is why WS2812 WS2812B WS2812C NeoPixels are the go-to programmable LEDs for everything from DIY projects with Arduino and Raspberry Pi to complex media facades.
The entire ecosystem runs on DC5V, which makes it accessible for hobbyists. SUPERLIGHTINGLED stocks WS2812B addressable LED strips in densities from a power-sipping 30 LEDs/m up to a super-bright 200 LEDs/m, as well as dotless COB versions and ultra-narrow strips down to 2.7mm wide. WS2811 IC Programmable LED Strips

The WS2811 IC is an external chip that controls LEDs in small groups — typically 3 LEDs for a 12V strip and 6 LEDs for a 24V strip. This means you can't control every single LED individually, but you still get incredibly smooth color-chasing and animation effects. For most addressable lighting applications, this grouped control is visually seamless and a smart way to reduce cost and complexity on projects that don't require pixel-perfect mapping. Available in both WS2811 SMD, WS2811 COB types, and WS2811 Neons to provide the ultimate dynamic lighting solution for custom animation runs and flawless cove embedding.
Unlike its 5V sibling, the WS2812B LED strip, which requires frequent power injection to combat voltage drop, WS2811 LED lights are engineered for longer, more stable runs on DC12V or DC24V. This makes them the go-to choice for architectural accents, large-scale stage effects, and holiday displays where reliability over distance is critical. What Voltage is Best for Single-Signal Strips: 5V, 12V, or 24V?
Choosing the right voltage is the most critical decision for any addressable LED strip light project, and it's a direct trade-off between control granularity and run length. There's no single 'best' option; it depends entirely on your goal.
-
DC5V Strips (e.g., WS2812B, SK6812): This is the voltage for maximum control. Because each LED can be controlled individually, you get the smoothest gradients and most complex effects. The downside is significant voltage drop. On a dense 144 LEDs/m strip, you'll see brightness and color shifts after just 1-2 meters. For any run longer than that, you must plan for power injection at multiple points. They're ideal for short, high-detail projects like PC lighting, drone customization, or intricate art pieces.
-
DC12V Strips (e.g., WS2811, SK6812): A great middle ground. These strips typically group 3 LEDs per control segment. You lose individual LED control, but you can run a full 5-meter reel from a single power connection with minimal voltage drop. This makes them far easier to install for room-scale projects like cove lighting, under-cabinet accents, and bar backlighting. Check out our guide to the best 12V addressable strips for more ideas.
-
DC24V Strips (e.g., UCS2904, WS2814): The champion for long-distance runs. By grouping LEDs in sets of 6 or more, 24V addressable strips can run for 10 meters or even longer before needing additional power. This is the choice for large architectural projects, commercial signage, and outdoor landscape lighting where minimizing complex wiring is a top priority. Our guide on 24V individually addressable strips explores these options in depth.

Single-Signal Digital LED Strip Addressable Lighting FAQ
SuperLightingLED™ single-signal addressable LED strips offer several advantages: 1. Simplified wiring – only one data line plus power and ground are required; 2. Ease of use – compatible with all digital LED controllers that support data protocols; 3. Lower cost – simplified design results in lower overall cost; 4. Broad compatibility – well-suited for basic addressable lighting needs and commercial installations.
A single-signal addressable LED strip works by using digital control ICs integrated into the strip. These ICs are in a single data line, receive controls from the controller that contains encoded information for colors, brightness, and addressing. Each IC interprets its own portion of the data, then passes the remaining signal downstream via the “data in → data out” chain to the next IC.
Yes. When wired and powered correctly, single-signal addressable LED strips are stable. Key factors affecting stability include proper power supply capacity, correct data wiring and direction, and compatibility with the controller.
Yes. Single-signal addressable LED strips use a 3-pin configuration: Power (V+), Ground (GND), Single data line (Data). So they comes with 3 wires and are typically equipped with 3-pin JST SM connectors.
Yes—but only at the designated cut marks printed on the strip. Cutting elsewhere may damage the control circuitry and disrupt signal transmission. After cutting, always double-check data direction and power polarity before powering up the strip.
Yes—quick connectors can be used provided they support the required three pins and maintain good signal integrity.
SuperLightingLED™ has been dedicated to providing customers with the most suitable addressable LED strip lighting products since 2011. As a result, we are now one of the brands with the most comprehensive product range available on global online platforms. The primary differences between these single-signal addressable LED strips come from the control IC type and characteristics, such as: supported refresh rate, signal protocol compatibility, addressing granularity (how many LEDs per control unit), operating voltage range and power efficiency. Other differentiators include LED type, density, and color configuration (RGB / RGBW / RGBCCT / single color / CCT), all of which affect visual performance and system behavior.
